Why Is Google Calling Me?

One of our clients recently asked me why he keeps on getting calls from Google. And it reminded me that I should probably write something so everyone is on the same page. I get the same calls from “Google”. Usually it is a recording that says “Hi, this is Karen, your local Google representative. There are some problems with your Google listing and you need to fix them now.” And it prompts you to press “1” to be connected with an agent to help correct the problems.

The real problem is – this is not someone from Google. The person on the other end of the line works for an internet marketing company and is trying to get your business. They will claim that they are “partners” with Google, but hey, aren’t we all?
The fact of the matter is they are using a scare tactic (something wrong with your listing) to bait and switch you into one of their services. Don’t play into it!

Here is a snippet from Google’s website:

If you are continually being contacted by a telemarketer claiming these things and are on the do not call list, you can file a complaint at the National Do Not Call Registry.

To read more, Google put together a list of other scams that they are aware of. Stay educated and you can avoid wasting your time on these shady tactics.
